چکیده

Antimony (Sb) is one of the elements of increasing environmental significance. In this study, concentrations of Sb were measured on 21 roadside topsoil samples collected from a medium-size city, Xuzhou (China), in order to assess the magnitude of contamination and to identify the possible contamination sources. The mode of occurrence of Sb and the effect of particle size fractions on Sb concentration distributions were also investigated from two specific soil samples. Median of Sb concentrations of the investigated urban surface soils is 0.96 mg kg -1 . The Sb in the Xuzhou topsoils is mainly attributed to the inputs of coal combustion and almost independent of the particle size fractions. The most common mode of occurrence of Sb is in association with organically-bound fraction.

Evaluation of roadside soils pollution with heavy metals (Pb, Ni, Cu, Zn) in the Rasht-Qazvin old road (Guilan province)

Background and Objective: Contamination of roadside soils with heavy metals is a serious threat to soil ecosystems and organisms and human health. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the concentration of heavy metals in the roadside soils of the Rasht-Qazvin old road. Materials and Methods: 10 out-of-town sampling sites were selected via the field observation of the entire ar...

Sequential Extraction Analysis of Lead in Michigan Roadside Soils: Mobilization in the Vadose Zone by Deicing Salts?

Sequential extraction analysis was used to characterize the geochemical partitioning of Pb in roadside soils of the Detroit, MI area. Four soil profiles (10, 30, 60, and 100 m from road) were sampled at 15-cm intervals to a depth of 75 cm at each of five locations along an urban-rural transect. The observed concentrations increase with increasing traffic volume and proximity to the highway, ind...

Black carbon in urban topsoils of Xuzhou (China): environmental implication and magnetic proxy.

Combustion-derived black carbon has received attention as a form of refractory organic carbon that may be preferentially preserved in soils and sediments. However, little is understood about the environmental roles of black carbon in urban soils. This investigation represented the preliminary study to characterize black carbon (BC) concentrations and enrichment ratios in Xuzhou urban roadside t...
